  • Join the Digital AFOL Day at LEGO House on September 24

    Jan Beyer

    Dear AFOLs,

COVID-19 keeps changing our plans – but for once something nice also comes out of it. Unfortunately LEGO House has had to change our long planned AFOL day on the 24th September into a digital experience. This is extremely disappointing for all the AFOLs who purchased a ticket and had been looking forward to a great experience in connection with the Skaerbaek Fan Weekend. The positive side effect is that the digital fan day will be available for everybody all over the world!

Participants are very welcome to participate in all three hours if they have the time – and enough coffee at hand. But they are also very welcome to tap in and out of the day as it suits them – and their time zone.

The host for the day will be play agent Emil Saaby, and he’ll introduce all speakers and do his best to ask your questions to the speakers. We would already now encourage everybody to think about the questions they would like to ask, so we can secure smooth sessions.

Please find the programme for the 24th September 2020  at this link – and  please note that we would like participants to sign-up for the individual sessions:

    https://legohouse.com/en-gb/what-s-on/lego-house-fan-day/

The LEGO House will be closed for any public traffic that day so there is unfortunately no possibility to join the sessions in person. Thank you very much for your understanding.

    Take care.

Thanks @Jan Beyer for the Information

We are sad, that this event has to be a digital event. But at the same time we are thankful that there will be the digital version.

One question: Where do you want us to share the information and link? Global, e.g. Social Media, or just with the members of our Group.

Looking forward to join the event.

    Best regards

Oh cool. I just signed up. My wife and I were hoping to return to Billund this fall to see the LEGO house for the 2nd time - until COVID!

So I was pleased to see that this is happening. I also am sharing the info with my LUG. Thanks!

@Jan Beyer Maybe you know, what is the "Product Development of Product Group 2" as mentioned being the position of Poul Schou ?
Are those some specific set types/themes ? Or are these even sets ?

Our product development is seperated in 2 groups PG1 and PG 2 and Poul is overseeing one of those so it is the whole development process from idea to set.

ok, thanks. To be more specific, I have people wondering if it is worth joining to ask questions on Technic sets. The reason is this is a working day and business time of day, so if it will be worth to rearrange time schedule.

If your people intend to ask about the Osprey, I don't think the Technic team will be allowed to share more than what was already communicated. I'd love to be wrong, but I'm not keeping my hopes up.

nope, it is more about the change in direction of the Technic towards single model licensed sets (on the mid-top end), why and how.

Not exactly a fan of just about anything online when it comes to social activities and events, but I must say that I will be looking forward to this one.

    • Are there any plans to allow questions being submitted in advance?
    • Will the videos be available online afterwards, for those who will not be able to see them live?

Has a link to participate been sent out yet?  I wanted to make sure I was all ready, since the event is at 4am my time.

Thank you all, it was interesting. I hope there will be more like this, if this situation continues. I loved the history sessions too. I am hoping for more of that too.

Maybe there can be an introduction or a slideshow from the biggest previous events from all over the World. (Just a suggestion for the organizers). 🙂

Did anyone capture screens from the perceived quality session.  My capture software crashed, and I would like to complement my article with supporting images.

    Hay Tom!

I took a couple... haven't checked whether they are good or not. You can find me on Facebook so I can send them to you if you would like!

Here's my writeup highlighting the six most interesting things that I learned during the event!

    Brick_Architect-LEGO_House_Virtual_Fan_D
6 things I learned at LEGO House Virtual Fan Day
LEGO House (Virtual) Fan Day offered a rare opportunity to learn how The LEGO Group works—these were the most interesting topics in the 3.5 hour session!

The most technically complex section of the presentation was Bjarke's explanation of why color matching has gotten worse in recent years (due to supply chain issues).  I did my best to accurately reflect the material, but would be happy to revise the text based on clarifications from Bjarke or someone else at The LEGO Group.

(I also had to re-create the chart from memory, since I didn't capture an image of the finished illustration.  I hope it is accurate too! - and Thanks @Anders Horvath for the source photo!)

Bjarke explained that their target for each pigment is usually within a narrow range in one quadrant of the color space, but they had to relax their target while working through supply chain issues. (Illustration re-created from my memory.)
(I think I got this right!)
