  1. Dear all, as LEGO House is still closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and it is unfortunately uncertain when it can open again my LEGO House colleagues and I decided to bring some of the LEGO House atmosphere home to our friends around the world. For weeks they have been creating “LEGO House @Home content” for LEGO House social media channels with tips and building tricks for family co-building at home and now they are adding a new layer specifically for AFOLs. As you know the Masterpiece Gallery is dedicated to exhibit LEGO brick built masterpieces by AFOLs from around the world. We have initiated making virtual interviews with those AFOLs to let them introduce their MOCs and the thinking behind those. There will be uploaded new interviews at the LEGO House YouTube Channel in the coming weeks: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FNohe-etuHQ&has_verified=1&feature=youtu.be The first interview went already live – here you get a peak behind the scenes of the amazing microscale LEGO city built by Caroline, also known as @Caz Mockett. So go and check it out. Take care and stay safe.
  2. Hi all, got this message from my LEGO House colleagues. "Since the opening of LEGO House it has been an important milestone to create exclusive products that relate to LEGO House and adds to the LEGO House experience for the guests. The first exclusive product launched was the LEGO House Architecture (21037) in 2017, followed by the LEGO House Tree of Creativity (4000026) in 2018, and then the LEGO House Dinosaurs (40366) in 2019. LEGO House has now decided to discontinue the LEGO House Tree of Creativity – in order to make shelf space for a new exclusive product arriving in late May 2020. The Tree of Creativity was originally launched as a great reproduction of the 15,6 metre tall Tree of Creativity in LEGO Square. The most iconic features were resized into the retail model. LEGO enthusiasts will know that the LEGO Group also launched a Tree of Creativity model back in May 2017. That particular model was developed as the surprise gift for the participants of the LEGO Inside Tour. Due to the popularity of the product and the iconic link to LEGO House, the model was chosen to become an LEGO House exclusive product. LEGO designer Steen Sig Andersen is the designer of the retail version in LEGO House and had great focus on the details. The LEGO House Tree of Creativity will be sold until out of stock. However, a special agreement has been made to ensure that the product is available during the AFOL Day in LEGO House on the 24th September 2020." So make sure to get a set for your collection before it leaves the assortment. Jan
  3. Hi all, the booking link for the traditional and super cozy AFOL Christmas lunch 2020 in LEGO House is out. https://legohouse.com/en-gb/what-s-on/afol-christmas-lunch/ So please feel free to book any time as long as we have open seats - usually we get sold out. Please notice that we moved to a Friday this year. I am very much forward to see you there and enjoy a great time with all of you. Jan
  4. Past Saturday we welcomed almost 90 happy AFOLs (and a few TFOLs and KFOLs) from 10 different countries to the yearly Fan Christmas Party at LEGO House. We had as usual great talks and good food as well as a few nice presentations (Cesar talked about the design process of the LEGO Ideas Tree House and Wes showed the new 2020 Modular building LEGO Creator Bookshop) as well as an after hours visit to the red zone in LEGO House for some building fun and photo opportunities. Thanks to all for being so great guests and to my colleagues to give us all such a great time. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you all. Jan P.S. The date for next years Christmas Party is December 11 2020 - hope to see you there.
  5. On Friday the 11th of October we conducted another LEGO House Fan Evening - this time with the theme Grand Old Designers. LEGO Designers Olav Krøigaard, Niels Milan Pedersen an Steen Sig Andersen (together with over 100 years of LEGO Design history) were interviewed by the one and only Are Heiseldal and over 50 happy AFOLs from 8 different countries listened to very nice stories and insights from the past 40 years of LEGO Design. In addition we did a little building challenge and I must admit that I was blown away by the creativity of the participants - it was extremely inspiring to see what can be built with the elements of LEGO set #40290 in less than 1 hour. At the end of the evening we planned 30 min for a photo and signature session with the 3 LEGO Designers which was used a lot - some participants even brought some big cart board boxes with sets they liked to have a signature on. With approximately 45 min delay everybody had left home very happy - thanks again to all for this great and very inspirational evening. Next to come is the annual LEGO House AFOL Christmas Lunch in December which is unfortunately already sold out but don't be sad as Astrid and I are in the planning phase for next years Fan Evenings which will be announce soon.
  6. Hi all, the past Wednesday we welcomed the 15 AFOLs who got chosen to display their MOCs in the LEGO House Masterpiece Gallery for the upcoming years time. The exhibitors are (in no particular order): Hsinwei Chi from Taiwan, Caroline Mockett from the UK, Eero Okkonen from Finland, Jason Allemann and Kristal Dubois from Canada, Marion Weintraut from Germany, Zio Chao from Taiwan, Paul Hetherington from Canada, Timofey Tkachev from Russia, Simon Hundsbichler from Austria, Milan Sekiz from Serbia, Matthew Goldberg from the US, Ryan van Duzor from the US, Sven Franic from Croatia and Stephan Gofers from the Netherlands. They as well as all involved LEGO House colleagues had a great time and the MOCs they brought are awesome so come and visit the Masterpiece Gallery to check them out.
  7. Dear all, I like to share a little bit of information about my current activities before I leave for 3 weeks of summer vacation. AFOL Networking Events (ANE) is one part of my activities which means I run and develop the program that supports the large events worldwide where many international AFOLs come together to mingle, enjoy, exchange ideas and plans, educate each other and have a great time. Right now there are 12 events in this program which are BricksLA, Bricks Cascade, BrickCan, Brick Slopes, Paredes de Coura Fan Weekend, Japan Brick Fest, Brick World Chicago, Brick Fiesta, Bricks by the Bay, BrickFair Virginia, Skærbæk Fan Weekend and BrickCon. These events get a larger physical support (LEGO Sets and LEGO elements) as well as extra consulting and attention from the LEGO Group in form of dialogue, activities and staff visits. In the coming months I’ll work on a strategy with the aim to strengthen and extend the program so it becomes even more attractive for the AFOL Community as well as the LEGO Group and also see how we can extend it to not yet covered regions. Another part of my activities is to support and educate LEGO Branded Stores globally in how to best work with the AFOL Community. The focus of the role is two-fold 1) continue to help nurture the personal relationship between the AFOL Community and Store personal and 2) create new and interesting activities and collaboration opportunities between the store and community which can be implemented globally and allow us to leverage the store as a platform to engage more with the AFOL community and give back. What is LEGO Branded stores (LBS)? Moving forward TLG will not differentiate between LEGO owned stores (formerly known as LEGO Branded stores) and LEGO certified stores. The company wants to differentiate based on size, where flagships stores will have a different offering of activities as well as a larger product portfolio vs medium (regular LBR store) and smaller stores (LCE stores). Good news is that once we start launching the toolbox into new markets we expect that more and more recognized community members will be able to join AFOL shopping days and / or participate in the showcase program (please note there will be regional and maybe even local differences – so we will not be able to launch ‘one size fits all’ due to difference is business practice, local relevance, size and maturity of the recognized community etc). I’m currently working on a LBS toolbox containing educational material as well as ideas and plans for activities the stores can do together with the AFOL Community. While some elements of the toolbox are already launched in Americas and Europe (like the showcase program) we aim to launch the toolbox in China already this year and we have received great interest in LCS markets in Europe and Eastern Europe. Once the toolbox is final I’ll share more information about its content with you. I’m also working on a digital AFOL sticker on the digital VIP card for all members of the recognized AFOL community to join the LEGO Brand Retail AFOL Shopping Days. The digital sticker till replace the physical sticker we have today. Some fans have had the pleasure of testing the digital sticker and I look forward to share more information about this new initiative later this week. The third part of my activities is to support and work with the LEGO House in Billund to integrate and represent the AFOL Community best possible into their activities and displays as the Community is seen as an important part of the LEGO Brand and LEGO experience in LEGO House. So concrete examples of the activities I work with in connection to the LEGO House are among others MOC exhibitions in different areas of the LEGO House (Master Piece Gallery, World Explorer, Show Cases), LEGO House themed Fan evenings, LEGO House AFOL Christmas Party and LEGO House AFOL Day. I also focus on increasing the representation of toy photography (end of June we had a Stuck in Plastic foto safari held in LEGO House) and the Brickfilm community. I hope this gives you a good overview and feel free to ask if you need more details. Have a great summer and I hope to see you around somewhere at an AFOL Networking Event, in a LEGO Store or at the LEGO House.
  8. Dear all, I kindly like to remind you to book a ticket soon if you like to join the Grand Old Designers Fan Evening in LEGO House on October 11th 2019. https://www.legohouse.com/en-gb/whats-on/grand-old-designers The Designers will be Niels Milan Pedersen, Olav Krøigaard and Steen Sig Andersen and together they have almost 120 years of LEGO Design experience. Bring your old LEGO sets if you like to have a signature on them. The lovely Are Heiseldal from Norway will be again the interviewer for the evening. We are looking forward to welcome you. Astrid and Jan
  9. LEGO® House dinosaurs is the new exclusive set Three giant LEGO dinosaurs greet visitors when they climb the stairs to the Experience Zones of the LEGO House. Available from April 17th as a retail set. Positioned in The Masterpiece Gallery the three iconic dinosaurs are the stunning centrepieces of the room. Each model has a metal skeleton inside to support the LEGO bricks, the height of each models is 2,92 m (without podium) and the total piece count of the three models is more than 600.000 LEGO bricks. Now LEGO House has taken on the challenge to convert the three giant dinosaurs into a retail product. The retail product, LEGO® House dinosaurs, will be launched at the LEGO Store in LEGO House this summer. And if everything goes as planned the first boxes will already be for sale from 17th April. The LEGO model is a great reproduction of the giant dinosaurs capturing all the most iconic features in a rescaled version. Designer Nina Koopman says: ”One of the biggest challenges with the new model has been to capture all the details from the big models. Especially since the models in Masterpiece Gallery were all built of the three different building systems LEGO DUPLO, LEGO Technic and LEGO System. You see it especially with the yellow dino where we eg. have used gear wheels, and ventilator elements to get the “Technic feel” into the product.” The three dinosaurs have been on their way for roughly a year and is the third exclusive product that LEGO House launches. The others being Tree of Creativity (4000026) and the LEGO House Architecture set (21037). In the new product it has been important to underline that it is both a toy for playing and a display model. Nina Koopman explains: “The aim was to make a stunning product and at the same time, we have worked with integrating moveable parts in the heads, arms and legs to enhance the play experience. Also the construction of the three models has deliberately been made different from each other in order to create three different building experiences, and you can remove the dinos from their podium.” Each of the three models within the new product has a podium that resembles the real podium in Masterpiece Gallery. This pays reference to the fact that Masterpiece Gallery in itself is a giant LEGO brick – just 862 times an ordinary LEGO 2x4 brick – and the three podiums are the tubes of that LEGO brick. The model is exclusively available at LEGO House in Billund and the retail price is 599 DKK. (Maximum 3 boxes pr. person). 10. Past Friday we welcomed 60 AFOLs from 14 different countries to the LEGO House Fan Evening around the 20 years anniversary of LEGO Star Wars. I asked my colleague Kim Thomsen to be the host as he is a true LEGO Star Wars expert and we built a great program with a mix of interviews (James Burns from Jedi News, Morten Sonne who is a long time LEGO Star Wars Fan and MOC builder and of course Jens Kronvold and Kurt Kristiansen representing the LEGO Star Wars Design Team) as well as some building fun and a LEGO Star Wars themed prize draw. We also had guest from the Danish Garrison of the 501st Legion who helped to "guard" the activity. The evening went very fast and all networked, asked their questions and learned a lot as well as had a great time together. Thank you very much to all participants and colleagues. I hope to see you soon in LEGO House.
  11. Dear all, I wanted to make sure you remember (and share with your community members) the great opportunity to join the 20 years Star Wars Fan evening at LEGO House on March 29th 2019. https://www.legohouse.com/en-gb/whats-on/star-wars-fan-evening This is your unique opportunity to meet Star Wars Designers and other hard core Star Wars Fans face to face and hear about cool things from the past 20 years. We will also do a building activity as well as having a nice dinner together. Of course you can also win something Star Wars themed. Do not miss this fantatstic opportunity and join us. I am looking forward to see you there. Jan
  12. Dear all, please save the date (and if you like already book a ticket) for the two 2019 Fan evenings in LEGO House. The first one will happen on Friday, March 29th 2019 and the theme will be Star Wars. The second one will happen on Friday, October 11th 2019 and the theme will be Grand old LEGO designers. If you like to get more information (details will follow later) or join feel free to check and/or book your ticket here https://www.legohouse.com/en-gb/whats-on selecting the date of interest in the bottom of the page. I will announce the date for the AFOL Christmas party at a later point in time. As always Astrid and I looking very much forward to welcome you. Jan
  13. Following tradition we conducted the annual AFOL Christmas Party at LEGO House past Saturday. 50 AFOLs from 8 different countries participated and it was again very cozy and engaging. We invited LEGO Designer Mike Psiaki to talk about the new modular building Corner Garage as well as Stuart Harris (responsible for all LEGO brick content in the LEGO House) to talk about the process of designing and building the Dinos in the Master Piece Gallery. We also had great chats and lots of good Christmas food. An exclusive after hours visit to the green zone and the Master Piece Gallery was included too. So we had a great time - to be repeated in December 2019. Hope to see you there. Merry Christmas.
  14. Past Friday we had again a very nice Fan Evening in the LEGO House. The theme this time was the 40 years anniversary of the LEGO Minifigure and 4 interview sessions were held around this theme with the experienced @Are J. 16. Around the world birthdays are celebrated with local traditions and the 1st birthday for the LEGO House has been celebrated in true Danish fashion. As an outsider looking in, a lot of the celebrations might not make sense, but this birthday is as authentic as it gets. Today was celebrated with flags, treasure hunts, more flags, cake and obviously more flags! Flags As you can see in nearly all the photos there were thousands of Danish flags (Dannebrog) and very few balloons as typical with other cultures. These flags were not only inside the LEGO House but were all around Billund. The Danish flag is not just symbol for national pride but is the symbol for a celebration. Whether it is a new employee at the LEGO Group, a birthday or a graduation the flags come out in full force. The moral of the story, the more flags the better! Throughout the LEGO House you would see flags added into scenes and giant flags being built by visitors. Every flag you see was specifically added for this celebration and will be removed after the celebration is over. Treasure Hunts All month visitors could also explore the LEGO House in hopes of finding all the hidden cakes. Seeking out these cakes required a keen eye and encouraged play throughout the building. The reward was worth it! Did you realize that having a treasure hunt is another Danish birthday tradition? Cake In many cultures you might have many different cake options but in Denmark there are a few simple rules. The cake should be a layered cake and the birthday host provides their own cake. While the LEGO House could not make a cake, we were lucky enough to celebrate the LEGO House birthday party with an award-winning baker Annemette Voss. Outside of Denmark you might not have heard of Annemette but she won the second season of “Den store bagedyst”. This Danish baking show has kicked off Annemette’s career which you can follow on www.annemettevoss.dk and shop.annemettevoss.dk. What did Annemette and todays visitors make for everyone? Obviously, a Danish flag birthday cake! You could even have a slice once the cake was done. Sunny or Dreary Did you know that the LEGO House was responsible for the weather today? It is a Danish tradition that the weather reflects your behavior over the past year. You can tell by the weather if the birthday celebrant was good (sun) or bad (dreary) this year. The morning started without a cloud in sight, we can speak for the rest of the day, so we know the LEGO House was very good this year! We all know that the LEGO House was good because of the joy and inspiration that it helped bring to thousands of fans. Employees in the LEGO House also stated that they see more parents getting involved and setting aside their phones for the day. Perhaps the LEGO House is even helping to get some of these adults out of their dark ages and back to building! Mark Your Calendars If you were not able to join the LEGO House this year for their birthday day celebration don't worry because there are many other unique Danish birthday celebrations coming up in the years to come. The Danish have fun traditions for celebrating “round birthdays” (20, 30, 40, etc.) as well as cinnamon and pepper birthdays. I am not certain what the LEGO House will have in store for us in the years to come but if they continue to follow Danish traditions they will have some exciting events planned for us. See you in Billund on September 29, 2019 and until then please let us know if you incorporate any fun Danish traditions in your next birthday party! For more behind the scenes stories, follow the blog by clicking the "Follow" button on the Blog main page.

  20. Dear all, a very cool new LEGO House exclusive retail set is on the way. Please check out the details below, feel free to share and of course visit the LEGO House to buy it. In the midst of LEGO House stands one of the world’s most iconic LEGO models, at over 15m tall and packed full of details and surprises even the most avid LEGO enthusiast cannot fail to be impressed by the Tree of Creativity. The tree is constructed from 6.316.611 standard LEGO bricks and took 23.500 hours to assemble to create an incredible and unique LEGO model. And now a LEGO small scale model of this tree will be exclusively available at the LEGO Store in LEGO House, Billund. The LEGO model is a great reproduction of the giant tree. All the most iconic features have been resized into this retail model. The real LEGO enthusiast will know that the LEGO Group launched a Tree of Creativity model back in May 2017. That particular model was developed as the surprise gift for the participants of the LEGO Inside Tour. The product developed for Inside Tour only comes out in 175 individually numbered boxes. Senior designer Steen Sig Andersen who originally also designed the first model was asked to do a retail version for LEGO House. Steen Sig Andersen says:” The former Tree of Creativity box has proven to be an iconic model for the LEGO House and it makes a lot of sense to also offer a Tree of Creativity to the guests of LEGO House. But it was very important that the two models were not identical as we would not take away the originality from the Inside Tour guests in 2017” Steen Sig Andersen’s efforts resulted in a very nice retail version which is slightly smaller than the LEGO Inside Tour model. The model is exclusively available at LEGO House in Billund and the retail price is 599 DKK. The LEGO Inside Tour model is not for sale. 23. Dear all, first of all I wish you a Happy New Year! When LEGO® House announced its first Christmas party for AFOLs, it was actually with a bit of anxiety. One could not quite know if the event would carry - a Saturday evening late in December? - in Billund? - for international AFOLs? All doubt proved unfounded. The word of the event was quickly spread and in a few days the tickets were rapidly sold. So there we are. Saturday evening on the 16th December, 70 excited adult LEGO enthusiasts from 8 different countries went to Billund to hold their first Christmas party at LEGO House. After such a great event there is no doubt -a new tradition has been founded! Andres Lehmann from Zusammengebaut.com and Michael Friedrichs from Promobricks.de were among the participants and we have been permitted to publish their review of the event: http://zusammengebaut.com/gruss-aus-dem-lego-house-in-billund-40579/ and https://www.promobricks.de/afol-julefrokost-event-im-lego-house-in-billund-bericht-und-bilder/48919 as well as a report about the new 10260 Downtown Diner that was presented by the LEGO Designer at the Christmas Party http://zusammengebaut.com/lego-downtown-diner-10260-mike-psiaki-im-interview-40629/ The evening was a lot of fun for all participants as well as us as hosts and we are looking forward to the 2018 version of this activity. All the best, Astrid Mueller, Senior Event & Tour Manager in LEGO House and Jan Beyer, Community Manager LEGO System A/S
