The LEGO Ambassador Network (LAN) is a community network to provide valuable dialogue and initiate activities of relevance for the mutual benefit of the Recognized LEGO User Groups (RLUG), the Recognized LEGO Fan Media (RLFM) and The LEGO Group (TLG).

Q: What is the LEGO Ambassador Network?

A: The LEGO Ambassador Network (LAN) is the platform and network foundation on which we base all our communication and support for the recognized entities of the AFOL community. The LAN is where ambassadors from the various recognized communities share experiences, get help and interact with other recognized communities and the LEGO Group community team (LCE|LEGO Community Engagement). We currently have around 300 recognized communities across the globe participating in the LAN.

Q: Who is LEGO Community Engagement (LCE)?

A: LCE is the LEGO Group’s community team which engages the mature LEGO fan community through various support offerings and experiences. Our department has more than 20 employees split between four different areas. The first one being Marketing, the second group is Operations and Engagement, the third group is Innovation and Strategy, and the final group is Technology. We have three experiences that we maintain. LEGO Ideas supports product ideas, LEGO Rebrick sources content and the LEGO Ambassador Network helps our team communicate globally with the different ambassadors. There’s currently four community managers covering the global online community; Asia, Americas and Europe/rest of world.

Q: How does one become a LEGO brand ambassador?

A: We currently do not have a formal program for LEGO brand ambassadors. In the past, the LEGO Ambassador Program also included prominent fans from the mature LEGO fan community and they functioned as LEGO brand ambassadors. With the 2014 update of the program and switch to being the LEGO Ambassador Network instead of LEGO Ambassador Program, the focus moved to the ambassadors being representatives for their recognized communities rather than brand ambassadors.

Q: Does the LEGO Group offer support or donations to schools, educational organizations, hospitals, charities etc.?

A: Not through the LEGO Ambassador Network. Charity and donations are granted through the LEGO Foundation. A clear description and how to can be found via their homepage (www.LEGOFoundation.com) under the “contact”-tab.

A: LEGO Rebrick is a platform for enthusiasts 13 years old or older around the world to take part in LEGO® sponsored contests.  These contests can be focused on stop-motion videos, original LEGO creations, or a combination of the two. Q: What is a LUG?
A: LUG means LEGO User Group or LEGO Users Group, depending on who and where you ask. The term originates deeply in the AFOL (Adult Fan Of LEGO) community and all the way back to when LUGNET (
www.LUGNET.com or the newer version at www.LUGNET.biz) was the core of all AFOL activity online. As for definitions on a LUG, we suggest reading this LUGNET topic from February 2001 (LINK)

Q: What is an AFOL?

A: An Adult Fan of LEGO, which is an 18+ years old LEGO fan who actively participates in the community either online, through a LUG (LEGO User Group) and/or by going to community driven events. The term AFOL originates in the community and is not created by The LEGO Group.

Q: What is a Recognized LUG (RLUG)?

A: A Recognized LUG is a term owned by the LEGO Group. It is how we identify a LEGO User Group that we have Recognized, given access and participation rights to on the LEGO Ambassador Network. Q: What is a Recognized LEGO Fan Media (RLFM)?

A: A Recognized LFM is a term owned by the LEGO Group. It is how we identify fan driven and owned media that we have recognized, given access and participation rights to on the LEGO Ambassador Network. Q: Can the LEGO Ambassador Network logo be used by anyone and are there any restrictions to its use?

A: The LEGO Ambassador Network (LAN) logo, as seen at the top of the current website and the LAN ambassador logos are only available for public use to the recognized communities. Images are available through the LEGO Ambassador Network forums. Modification of these logos in any capacity is not allowed. This includes manually adding the LEGO Group’s brand logo.

Q: Which types of support does The LEGO Group offer members of the LEGO Ambassador Network?

A: We offer support by providing a networking platform that allows experiences and best practices to be shared in the community on a global level. The LEGO Ambassador Network also features an academy section where these best practices can be formalized and turned into training materials for the community. We also offer a variety of support programs to show appreciation of all the amazing things that the dedicated AFOL community does above and beyond everyone else.The currently offered support programs are:

Q: Does the LEGO Group offer support in building big projects?

A: Yes, we have a Project Support Program that provides the recognized communities with the opportunity to purchase large amount of bricks for big building projects in the community – these projects cannot be of commercial character.

Q: Does the LEGO Group offer support for events driven by Recognized LUGs and/or Recognized LEGO Fan Media?

A: Yes, as a token of appreciation we offer event support which consists of play brick boxes and product boxes for the organizing community and its members. The support is meant as an appreciation and cannot be given or sold to the public.

Q: Does the LEGO Group offer discounted access to LEGO bricks for the members of Recognized Communities?

A: Yes, to ensure that the members of recognized communities can build the models of their dreams (or as close as we can get them) we offer an annual one off order on discounted LEGO bricks through the LEGO Ambassador Network.

Q: Does the LEGO Group support some fan driven events differently than others, and if so, why?

A: Yes, we know there are thousands of fan-driven events and activities every year and we cannot support or attend all of them. We do want to meet as many of you as possible, so through the Hub Event Support Program we’re offering additional support to a few select events that function as hubs for the community in their region – currently we offer this added support to the Skærbæk Fan Weekend (Denmark, September), Paredes de Coura Fan Weekend (Portugal, June) and Kobe Fan Weekend (Japan, June). We guarantee a minimum of one Community Manager at these events but always aim to prioritize them, in hopes that we have as many as possible there from the LEGO Community Team.
