  1. Here are the photo entries from our members for our group's Minifig Habitat Build Challenge. The goal was to build an 8x8 vignette-style habitat for a minifig, similar to what other group's have done worldwide. We are hoping to display these at our next show/event and encourage more members to build a habitat of their own.

Next Challenge! As always - lets try something different. Show us a "habitat" for a minifigure. It should be no bigger than 8x8 studs for the base, and no taller than 8 bricks high. Fill it with a figure (or two) and a little scene! I've attached some examples below - the examples are actually designed so that you can link them up if you wanted to (but you don't need to take that step for the challenge). Post your scene below, and we will draw for a set at the end - Entries close midnight, Sunday June 28.

Build Challenge time! Let's see something SMALL this time. What's the best you can do with 25 pieces or less? Show up your micro-builds! We will randomly draw from all participants to award a set to be named later. Deadline- Midnight, June 9th!

Well folks, it's official - The Royal St. John's Regatta has been cancelled for the first time in 80 years. So, let's fix that with our next build challenge - We are going to have the first annual Definitely-not-Royal NewfoundLUG Regatta! Build a stall for lakeside! Build a boat and a team of rowers! Build a little scene with a family visiting! Let's keep the builds minifig scale (although figures are optional of course). Build challenge will close May 23rd, and we will draw for a prize.

Next build challenge: Make something useful in less than 300 pieces. What's useful? You decide! Is it a pencil holder? Eyeglass polisher? Phone charging stand? This will be something that serves a function, and built from LEGO. Entries should be submitted by posting in the comments below, we will accept entry up to midnight, May 5th and draw/announce the winner at the Annual Meeting on May 6th. Open to all members of NewfoundLUG.

  7. Pictures from our 3rd Annual LUG Showcase, co-hosted with our local Bricks n Minifigs toy store. This all day event featured displays and creations from over 20 NewfoundLUG members, and attracted over 450+ guests. Plenty of unique builds and creations were on display, including a minifig scale container ship, measuring over 13 feet in length! All in all, this was a great first show to kick off our 2020 event season and we are looking forward to the rest of the year.

NewfoundLUG's next group meeting will be Thursday, September 5th, 2019 on Blackmarsh Road in St. John's. New and existing members welcome! We will be welcoming everyone back from summer vacation and discussing our plans for the Fall season. One of the main discussion points will focus on the recent Activity Support that we have received from LEGO! The Exec team will be sharing our initial plans for distribution throughout the year and how LUG members can be involved. Feedback and opinions will be welcome. If time permits, we would also like to circulate a LUGBULK Expressions of Interest survey to the group, to gauge interest level in participating in the LUGBULK program in early 2020. Our hope is to begin scheduling "LUGBULK Only" meetings throughout the Fall, to prepare for this program. As always, bring your new sets, MOCs, WIP, etc. If you're unable to bring these, take pictures and share with the group!
