  • Season’s Greetings

    Signe Lønholdt

In the community team we’re on the turf of Holiday Season, and I want to take the opportunity to reflect over the past year and look toward 2019.

2018 has been an exciting year on LAN with lots of changes and I want to thank all the LAN Ambassadors for all their great work and contributions throughout the year. For me it has been fantastic to see how you’ve shared your knowledge with each other and with us. You’ve been providing feedback to important topics from business units within the LEGO company and you’ve ensured that messages are distributed to the recognized community members. Thank you so much!

We recently launched a new landing page on LAN and your responses have been overwhelming. The page was developed earlier this year and we put it on hold for a while because we weren’t sure it would be adding value. We were wrong: in general, the feedback has been extremely positive, and it seems like it has added a lot of value in terms of getting a quick overview of what’s new on LAN that ambassadors were requesting.

In the late summer of 2018 we welcomed Jordan Paxton to the community team and I’m so happy to see how you’ve made Jordan feel welcome in the network.

Right before the Holidays we announced LUGBULK 2019 as well as added new functionality that will make it easier for ambassadors to apply for support and report all the amazing, creative and impactful events and activities you organize in the recognized LEGO fan community. Through these reports, I’m looking forward to seeing all the innovative and exiting initiatives happening in the recognized community in 2019.

Last but not least, a big and heartfelt thanks to the LAN team: Jordan, Kim, Ana and everyone in the community team for a fantastic, fun and outstanding collaboration this year – you guys are truly awesome!

On behalf of the Community Team I wish you and your loved ones a relaxing and joyful season and a prosperous New Year!

And seasons greetings to you all, too!

You gave us some wonderful gifts in the last few days. Not only the packet with that wonderful set, but also the new rules for LUGBULK that takes a lot of pain off our shoulders, and the documentation for the PoweredUp! system. EDIT: And that you finally started with those Forms on LAN!

    Thank you for that, and

    Leg bedre!

I am torn as to where would be best to write my Christmas thanks as there are so many things I want to say, however after reading @Signe Lønholdt's post above I felt here was a good place to reply.

Firstly thanks to the entire LAN team for guiding us all through what has been a roller coaster of a year, 2018 gave us so many challenges yet the team seems to have pulled us through every crisis. This has often seemed to me like trying to herd cats with the many varied groups represented here but the team (in my opinion) have acheived a lot of success for us all throughout these times.

Thanks also to the wise heads of the many ambassadors who dare to "stick their head above the parapet" to give voice to their concerns or offer advice on the LAN, without these opinions (even when we disagree) the LAN would be a sterile and boring place with no room to learn and grow. I have found many useful discussions here this year that have helped our LUG to evolve and grow, my resolve for 2019 is to spend more time sharing our successes (and failures) so others may benefit from our little club at the bottom of the world.

Thirdly and perhaps most importantly a huge thankyou to TLG for the support given to our club, we are a small group of fans at the far side of the planet yet the support offerings from TLG never cease to amaze me (and my mailman), rest assured that whatever support is offered for 2019 and beyond we humbly thank TLG and the Staff that enable it to happen, it is in no way expected or felt that this support is owed to us and yet it makes a huge difference in how our club members can enjoy their hobby/obsession and enables us as a club to give back to our wider community and live up to the LEGO motto of "play well".

On a similar note, the Christmas present I received this week is such a very special and touching gift. Words fail to express how much I will treasure having this set as part of my collection and how much fun it will be to build it. I volunteer on Christmas day to assist at an event for those less fortunate within our community and this set will be going with me to be built by myself and some of the kids that visit the event during the day thus sharing the fun a little more. To also receive a gift for working in the capacity of Brickmate was just the icing on the cake for me and this one will be built with my 6 year old Granddaughter assisting me on Christmas night. Thank you and Merry Christmas to all involved in this gift giving, it is a very humbling reward for doing a job I love (representing my club).

Lastly, Thanks to my fellow New Zealand ambassadors, we are a small country far removed from the rest of the world yet because of the efforts of those involved in our clubs scattered across the country our AFOL community seems closer and more accessible than ever before. May the great inter club communication of 2018 keep us all working together and enjoying fellowship and friendly rivalry around the many amazing events you all produce into 2019 and beyond.

MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR to the LCE team, my Brickmate mentees and all the other ambassadors and the many AFOL communities they represent, may 2019 bring fun and good fortune to you all.

Thanks to all of you - community engagement team and fellow ambassadors! 2018 has been a challenging year, but also a year in which we as a community grew a lot and learned a lot, in many cases due to the useful information and topics in the LAN. On behalf of our RLUG form the small Baltic country of Latvia - LATLUG, I wish you all Merry Christmas and joyful New Year - full with amazing moments, success stores, wonderful events and of course - plenty of building! :)
