  • LAN Town Hall - Fall 2021

    Jordan P

Twice a year members of AFOL Engagement host a LAN Town Hall to talk to members of Recognized Community and share updates, challenges, and achievements. The goal is to provide a look back and a look forward to what is happening behind the scenes. It is a casual conversation with multiple presenters and a Q&A at the end.

Whether you are part of a Recognized Community or not, we hope you enjoy the content and get a better understanding of some of the exciting things happening behind the curtain. If you have any questions, please post them below.

You guys Hit the nail right on the head. Lego is for all ages. I have been collecting and building Lego On and off all my life. I started in the 80's and I started back up a little when I was in collage and Now for the past 7+ years of I have really ramped up, my collecting and building. I have not been able to collect and build everything I want due to budget and being a dad of two little girls. I have introduced Lego to my girls at a very young age, starting with a used I was able to get my hands on of Quatro, They quickly advanced to Duplo and not my oldest (4Y) us enjoying the 4+ Sets.
I myself have never gone to any Lego events because of a busy life but hope in the near future, when things have become more normal. I will love to attend events and bring my two girls. 🥰

As an extension of my hobby I have been casually building up a Youtube Channel that is dedicated to only Lego bricks. I find it a fun and creative outlet to show off my Lego, promote this great hobby and product. I know I can not compete with some of the big names that have such a huge collection and surplus of parts. But I still enjoy creating the videos. :)

On the Idea of brick and mortar stores, I live in Ontario Canada and there are three Stores on the west end of Toronto GTA but nothing on the east end. It is VERY hard for me to get to the nearest location, to take advantage of the instore Promos and items.

On the part of Items online selling out right away. This has happened to me many times during the pandemic. It just happened with the Lego Santa's Sleigh. It was sold out the morning that it went on sale. I clicked on the Notify me when in stock, and it emailed me a few days later. By the time I put the item in the card and went to add one more item it was no longer available. Last night I checked on Brick link and there where stores Marking up the price of the set and showed they had over 100 copies of this set for sale. :( This set should have been a limit of one or two sets, since there where only X4 Reindeer and Santa has 8 + one guy with a red nose :D . I don't know how they could order so many sets since there is a limit, unless they are using Multiple accounts and using BOTS to buy them. To help reduce this activity, I think the website should have a check before checkout, like many other sites to make sure it is a human buying the item and not a Bot. I do understand the Lego is trying to doing what they can, but since Lego owns Brick Links now, they should be able to help regulate and reduce the scalping that is happening with sets that are high in demand.

I have a question about marketing. In specific the marketing of the Monkie Kid line in North America. As a child of the 80's I know the importance of cartoon series marketing and selling toys. The cartoon series for Monkie Kid came out well in Asia and NZ over a year ago at the beginning of the launch, but did not come out in NA till just recently on Amazon Prime, only. And I have heard that some of the sets in wave one are going to be retired at the end of the year. This does not give your target audience time to pickup on the amazing factor of this line of toys and I feel this was an opportunity that was lost. The Monkie Kid line is AWESOME, Colourful and FUN! And this is myself as an Adult saying this. My two girls Love the sets, even though Daddy says they are not old enough for them yet ;) This line could rival Ninjago if given a chance.

I would like to thank you for all your hardware within the LAN program and I truly appreciate your efforts :)

Hi all. Relatively new to LEGO. Didn't have any as a kid. First time I walked into a store was 2015. So embarrassed wanting to buy a kid's toy - I made up a fictitious grandson!

My question: why does LEGO make a distinction between RLUGs and RLOCs? Can RLUGs be online?...skip in-person meetings? I can't find an answer.

    Thank you for your help.

The difference between LUG and LOC can appear to be fine line. While we see many LUGs that do meet online just as we see LOCs that meet in person there are obvious distinctions in community behavior. The DNA of a LUG is to meet in person and do almost everything in person. For a LOC, it is the opposite where almost everything is online. I guess it really comes down to core of the community and how it functions.
